A UNIQUE BIRTHDAY
PARTY LILA McCANN ENJOYED
HER BIRTHDAY IN A SPECIAL WAY. LILA CELEBRATED HER BIRTHDAY BY BRINGING
CELEBRITY CHEF JOHNNY CIAO TO PREPARE A SPECIAL MEAL FOR HOLLYWOOD’S HOMELESS
TEENS Lila spent the her day serving food at My Friend’s Place,
a resource center that services the homeless teens on Hollywood Boulevard. This year, since moving into her own apartment in Los Angeles,
CA, Lila opted to celebrate her ongoing success and new gold album (Something
In The Air) by hosting a party for young people less fortunate than herself.
She arranged for Johnny Ciao, the "Rock n’ Roll" celebrity chef to
prepare a special luncheon of gourmet burritos for the homeless youth who
utilize My Friend’s Place. Lila was on hand with Johnny Ciao, to greet
the teens and serve the food. Johnny Ciao has cooked for such personalities
as Michael Jackson, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Carlos
Santana, and Marlon Brando to name a few. Explains Lila, "I was blessed to have grown up with
supportive family, friends and adults in my life who nurtured and supported
my dreams. There wouldn’t be any Gold records without their encouragement.
Since becoming involved with My Friend’s Place, I know there are so many
young people who are discouraged and abused by the people they trusted and
now by the harshness of a big city. This is the least I can do for them and
plan to do much more in the future. I already feel this is a remarkable
birthday that will always be very special." Some of the highlights of the day included Lila performing
Christmas songs on her acoustic guitar with Johnny Ciao jamming on the
harmonica; Lila passing the guitar to the kids and joining in a large song
circle; someone sitting on a part of the birthday cake and the group
wondering who would get stuck with that piece and Lila presenting her Tacoma
acoustic guitar to the center for the clients to use on a regular basis. She
saw how much joy the guitar brought to the group today, so she felt it would
be well appreciated. Lila wants to emphasis with her visit that My Friend’s Place
is in dire need of donations to continue to feed and provide much needed
services. Donations can be made payable to My Friend’s Place, PO Box 3867,
Hollywood, CA 90078. My Friend’s Place is a non profit organization that provides a safe haven for
homeless youth on the streets of Hollywood. The facility serves young people
facing life’s most difficult challenges socially, emotionally, and
physically. My Friend’s Place provides meals, a safe environment and
safety from the streets. Their low-pressure approach makes it one of the most
heavily accessed sites of it’s kind in Southern California, in spite of the
fact that it is one of the smallest. For more information regarding My
Friend’s Place contact June Rich, Director of Development at 323-908-0011
